Understand your engine

Oxygen in.
A clearer picture out.

VO₂ max describes the greatest amount of oxygen your body can use during intense exercise. It is a measure of aerobic capacity.

A breath-analysis assessment looks at oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production while you exercise. These measurements add information to the pace, power and heart-rate data you may already track.

The value is in understanding what was measured, how the test was performed and how the results fit your current training. Before booking, ask the team about the exercise protocol, report outputs and how the findings will be explained.

Questions your assessment can explore

From capacity
to training context.

Confirm which measurements and report outputs are included in your assessment.

01

Aerobic capacity

How much oxygen you use during the test, and what that says about your current exercise capacity.

02

Breathing & metabolic response

How oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production change as the exercise workload increases.

03

Thresholds & intensity

Whether the test identifies thresholds that can support more individual training-zone discussions.

04

A baseline for comparison

How a future assessment using a comparable protocol could add context to changes in your training.

Give effort a purpose

Different intensities.
Different conversations.

A training zone groups exercise intensity into a range. Threshold information may help personalise those ranges when it is available from your assessment.

Discuss the findings alongside your current programme, recovery and goals. The result is a conversation with your coach or health professional about where to focus and how to track it.

01

Easy effort

A starting point for discussing easier sessions and recovery demands.

02

Steady effort

Context for sustained exercise and aerobic training.

03

Hard effort

A conversation about higher-intensity work and its place in a programme.

Conceptual categories only. Your zones require assessment; no personal thresholds, heart rates or training prescription are shown.

The assessment journey

Prepare.
Measure. Understand.

  1. 01

    Discuss the assessment

Tell the team about your goals, training history and relevant health information. Confirm suitability, who conducts the test, the protocol and the appointment arrangements.

  2. 02

    Complete the exercise test

Follow the operator’s instructions for setup and the exercise protocol. Breath measurements are collected as you work through the agreed assessment.

  3. 03

    Put the results in context

Confirm how you receive the results and what explanation is provided. Ask how the findings relate to your training questions and whether additional consultation time is separate.

Set up a useful test day

Arrive prepared.
Know what to expect.

Request the preparation instructions for your specific assessment before attending. Ask about exercise, food, caffeine, hydration and any medicines relevant to testing.

  • Wear exercise clothing and footwear suitable for the agreed protocol.
  • Tell the team about current symptoms, injuries or conditions that may affect exercise.
  • Discuss your normal training and any recent hard sessions when arranging the appointment.
  • Confirm how the assessment will be adapted or stopped if needed.

If you have concerns about exercise testing, discuss suitability with your treating clinician and the testing team before booking.

A little clarity

Before
you begin.

What is VO₂ max in plain language?

It describes the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during intense exercise. It provides information about aerobic capacity, which is one part of understanding your fitness and performance.

Is this just for competitive athletes?

You can discuss an assessment if you want more context for your training or current exercise capacity. The team will help establish whether the testing approach suits your goals and health circumstances.

Will I receive personal training zones?

Ask whether threshold and training-zone outputs are included in your assessment, how they are calculated and how they will be explained. A separate training programme or consultation should be agreed before booking.

How much does it cost and how long is the visit?

Online booking lists a 30-minute appointment. Enquire with Supercell for the current fee. Confirm how setup, exercise, recovery and any results conversation fit within the visit, including whether further consultation time is booked separately.

Who conducts the assessment?

Confirm the operator and their relevant qualifications with Supercell before booking. The team can explain the testing protocol, supervision and suitability checks for your appointment.

Can I compare results over time?

A repeat assessment can provide context when testing methods and conditions are comparable. Discuss a suitable interval and interpret the results alongside your training history and goals.
